Cardigan - Worked in one piece, starting with yoke, using colour 1 make 55ch, (RS)
1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 6ch’s (Front), 3tr into next ch, 1tr
into next 8ch’s (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 17ch’s (Back), 3tr
into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch’s. (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the
next 8ch’s (Front). Turn. (60tr + 3ch).
2nd Row - (Inc Row) 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to next 3tr group, 1tr into next tr,
3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next
tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, work 1tr into top of
3ch. Turn. (68tr + 3ch)
3rd to 8th Row - rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (116tr + 3ch)
9th Row - (Divide for Armholes) - Make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of
next 15tr, 2dc into next tr, miss next 24tr, (armhole) 2dc into next tr, 1dc into
each of next 33tr, 2dc into next tr, miss next 24tr, (armhole) 2dc into next tr,
1dc into each of next 15tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (73dc)
Commence with Skirt - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1dc, 3tr into next ch, work
(1ch, 1dc, 1htr, 1tr) around the post of the last tr made, miss 1dc, 1dc into next
dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 3st, 1dc into 1ch space, miss 2tr, 3tr
into next dc, work (1ch, 1dc, 1htr, 1tr) around the post of the last tr made, * rpt
from * to * to last group and dc, miss 3st, 1dc into 1ch space, miss 2tr, 3tr into
last dc. Turn.
Pattern Row 1 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, miss 2tr, * 3tr into next dc, work (1ch,

Turn.
Pattern Row 2 - 3ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 3st, 1dc into 1ch space, miss 2tr,
3tr into next dc, work (1ch, 1dc, 1htr, 1tr) around the post of the last tr made,
* rpt from * to * to last group and dc, miss 3st, 1dc into 1ch space, miss 2tr, 3tr
into last dc. Turn.
Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until 12 rows have been worked in all from the yoke. Fasten
off.
Join in colour 2 and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.
Join in colour 1 and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.
Sleeves x 2 - With RS facing, rejoin colour 1 to centre tr of 3tr under arm, 3ch,
1tr into each of next 24tr, 1tr into centre tr of 3tr on opposite side of sleeve
under arm, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (25tr + 3ch).
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row until 8 rows have been worked from yoke, change to colour 2 and rpt
last row twice, change back to colour 1 and rpt last row once, sleeve seam measures
approx 5 Inches.
Work 1 row of crab stitch. (see abbrev) Fasten off.
Button/Buttonhole Bands -
Buttonhole Band - With RS facing, join colour 2 to lower edge of right hand side
of front edge, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 40 more dc evenly up first front
edge to corner. Turn.
Next Row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into
next 6dc * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of remaining dc
to end. Turn. (3 Buttonholes made) (swap buttonholes to opposite side for boy)
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Fasten
off.
Button Band - Working from neck edge downwards on opposite front edge, join in colour
1, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 40 more dc evenly into row ends to end. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch and turning at the end of each row, work
2 more rows in dc. Fasten off.
With RS facing join colour 1 to top of button band on left hand neck edge, work crab
stitch across button band, first front, back, second front and buttonhole band edges.
Fasten off.
Finishing - Close small gap under each arms, weave in any loose ends of yarn, attach
buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
