20 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in lilac (017) colour 2

4.00mm Crochet Hook

3 Small Buttons

1 mtr of 6mm wide satin ribbon


TENSION - 8tr & 4 rows of tr's measures approx 2 Inches

Coat  (Worked in one piece starting with yoke) -


Using colour 1 make 55ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr in each ch to end. Turn. (52tr + 3ch)


2nd Row - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr and into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)


3rd Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


4th Row - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of the next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (86tr + 3ch)


5th Row - as 3rd Row.


6th Row - as 4th Row. (114tr + 3ch)


7th Row - as 3rd Row. Fasten off.


Join in colour 2 with a ss.


8th Row - (Inc Row) as 4th Row until 1tr and 3ch remain, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. (152tr + 3ch) Fasten off.


Commence with Skirt - Using colour 1 make 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * miss 2tr, 1 shell group into next tr, (see abbrev) * rpt from * to * last 3tr and 3ch, miss 2tr, 1tr into last tr and top of 3ch. Turn. (49 shell groups)


Next Row - (Divide for armholes) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 1 shell group into 1ch space of next shell group, * rpt from * to * 5 more times, 2tr, 1ch into next shell group, miss next 10 shell groups, 2tr into next shell group, rpt from * to * 13 times more, 2tr, 1ch into next shell group, miss 10 shell groups, 2tr into next shell group, rpt from * to * 6 times more, 1tr into tr and top of 3ch. Turn. (27 shell groups including the 2 created underarms)


Pattern Row - 3ch, 1tr into next tr, 1 shell group into 1ch space of each shell group to last tr and 3ch, 1tr into next tr and top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Row until 11 rows have been worked from yoke. Fasten off. Work Pattern Row once in colour 2. Fasten off. Work Pattern Row once in colour 1. Fasten off. Work should measures approx 10.5 Inches from shoulder.


Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing rejoin colour 1 to same shell group under arm (where you divided and worked 2tr), make 3ch, 1 shell group into each of next 10 shell groups, 1tr into same shell group where you worked 2tr on opposite side of sleeve, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (10 shell groups)


Next Row - 3ch, * 1 shell group into 1ch space of next shell group, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt last row until 8 shell groups rows have been worked from yoke. Fasten off.


Rpt last row once in colour 2. Fasten off. Sleeve seam measures approx 4.5”. Turn.


Cuff - Using colour 1 make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, miss 1tr, * 1dc into each of next (tr, 1ch space and tr), miss 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, miss last tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (31dc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, (see abbrev) 1dc into each dc to last 3dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into last dc, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (29dc)


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. Rpt last row twice. Fasten off.


Button/Buttonhole Bands - Using colour 1 with RS facing and starting at lower edge on right hand side of coat, work 2dc into each row end, up first front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each stitch around neck, 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end down second front edge to end. Turn.


Next Row - (buttonhole row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner, 1dc into corner, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 6dc, * rpt from * to * once, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into remaining dc. Turn. (3 buttonholes made)


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to corner. Fasten off.


Finishing - Close small gaps under arms, weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim, decorate with ribbon.


Bonnet - Using colour 1 make 62ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn (59tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt last row until 9 rows have been worked or work measures approx 4 Inches. Fasten off. Turn.


Next Row - Miss 20tr, rejoin yarn to 21st tr, 3ch, 1tr into each of next 19tr, turn leaving 19tr and 3ch un-worked. (19tr + 3ch)


Continue on these centre stitches, by working 3ch, 1tr into each tr, 1tr into top of 3ch until centre panel fits along side panels. (approx 11 rows) Fasten off.


Front edge - With RS facing rejoin colour 1 to cast on edge at front of bonnet, working on the opposite side of cast on ch, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ch to end. Fasten off. Turn.


Brim - Join in colour 2, working into back loop of stitch only for this row make 3ch, miss 2dc, * 2tr, 1ch into next dc, 2tr into next dc, miss 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into last dc. Fasten off. Turn. (14, 1ch spaces).


Next Row - Using colour 1 make 3ch, 1 shell group into each 1ch space to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt the last row until 5 shell group rows have been worked. Fasten off.


Return to Front Edge, working into loose loops using colour 1, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each loose loop to end. Turn. Work one more row of dc. Fasten off.


Finishing - With WS facing join side seams by ss or over sewing with needle and yarn, turn through to RS, work 1 row of tr stitch evenly along neck edge catching in brim on both sides of bonnet as you go. Fasten off.


Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off, thread ribbon through tr around neck edge and tie in a bow.
