Coat - Worked in one piece, starting with yoke, using 3.50mm hook and main colour make 60ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 6ch’s (back), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 10ch’s (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 18ch’s (front), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 10ch’s. (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 8ch’s (back). Turn. (65tr + 3ch)


2nd Row - (Inc Row) 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to next 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to 3ch to turn with, work 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (73tr + 3ch)

 

3rd to 6th Row - rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (105tr + 3ch)

 

7th Row - (Increase & Divide for Armholes) - Make 3ch, 1tr in next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr,* rpt from * to * to centre tr of the first 3tr group, 2tr into centre tr, miss next 22tr, 1tr into centre tr of next 3tr group, rpt from * to * to centre tr of next 3tr group, 2tr into next tr, miss next 22tr, 1tr into next tr, rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, 1tr into tr, 1tr into top of 3ch, Turn. (90tr + 3ch)


Commence Skirt - 2ch, 1htr into base of 2ch, * miss 1tr, vst into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, miss 1tr, 2htr into top of 3ch. Turn. (44 vst)


Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * miss 2htr, tr3tog (see abbrev) into next 1ch space, 1ch, * rpt from * to * to end, 2tr into top of 2ch. Turn.

Pattern Row 1 - 2ch, vst into each 1ch space to end, work 1htr into top of 3ch. Turn. (45 vst)


Pattern Row 2 - 3ch, * tr3tog into next 1ch space, 1ch, * rpt from * to * to last 1ch space, tr3tog into 1ch space, 1tr into top of 2ch. Turn. (45 tr3tog, 1tr + 3ch)


Pattern Row 3 - 2ch, 1htr into base of 2ch, miss tr3tog, vst into each 1ch space to end, 2htr into top of 3ch. Turn.


Pattern Row 4 - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, make 1ch, * miss 2htr, tr3tog into next 1ch space, 1ch, * rpt from * to * to end, 2tr into top of 2ch. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 to 4 twice until 14 pattern rows have been worked from the 7th Row or work measures approx 8.5 Inches from shoulder. Fasten off.


Join in contrast colour and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - Rejoin main colour to side of tr underarm were you divided for armhole, make 3ch, 1tr into same space, 1tr into each of next 22tr, 2tr into side of tr on opposite side of sleeve, ss to top of 3ch. Fasten off. (25tr + 3ch)


Next Row - Join in contrast colour with a ss to top of 3ch, work 2ch, * miss 1tr, vst into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr, work (1htr, 1ch) into last tr, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Turn. (13 vst)


Next Row - 3ch, tr2tog (see abbrev) into 1ch space at base of 3ch, make 1ch, work (tr3tog, 1ch) into each 1ch space to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Fasten off. (13, tr3tog)


Buttonhole Band (Written for a girl, swap sides for a boy)

With main colour, RS facing and starting on lower edge on right hand front, work 38dc evenly along to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along neck edge to next corner, 3dc into corner, work 38dc evenly along second front edge to end. Turn.

 

Next row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner 1dc into corner * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once more, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of the remaining dc to end. Fasten off

(3 Buttonholes Made)


Flower Motif (Made in continuous rounds without turning) -

With contrast colour, make magic circle, using 3.50mm hook make 1ch, work 12dc into circle, pull loose thread to close circle, ss to first dc on beginning of row. (12dc)


Next Row - 4ch, 1tr into base of 4ch, * make 1ch, 1tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, make 1ch, ss to 3rd of 4ch on beginning of row.


Petals - * (ss, 3ch, 2tr, 3ch, ss) into next 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first ss. (13 Petals)


Finishing - Close small gap under arms, weave in any loose ends, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes, attach flower motif to coat.
