4 Small buttons


GAUGE - 5dc and 2 rows measures approx 1” on 4.00mm hook

Coat - (Back) With 5.00mm hook ch32 loosely, change to 4.00mm hook, # work 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1ch, (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next ch, skip 1ch, 1sc in next ch * rpt from * to * to last ch2, skip 1ch, 1dc in last ch. Turn. (7 groups)


Pattern Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next sc, 1sc in centre dc of group * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in last sc. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Row until 7 rows have been worked or work measures approx 2.5 inches. Fasten off.


Join in color 2, rpt Pattern Row until 13 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 4.5 inches. Fasten off. #


Join in color 3, rpt Pattern Row until 18 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 6.5 inches. Fasten off.


First Front - With 5.00mm hook ch16 loosely, change to 4.00mm hook, work from # to # from back of coat. (3 groups)


Join in color 3, rpt Pattern Row until 15 rows have been worked from beginning or work measures approx 5.5 inches. Turn.


Shape Neck - Work Pattern Row to last sc, group and sc, work (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in sc, turn leaving last group and sc un-worked.


Next row - ch1, 1sc in centre dc of first group, work Pattern Row to end. Turn.


Continue with Pattern Row on these stitches until front measures same as back. Fasten off.


Second front - Work same as first front to neck shaping. Fasten off. Turn.


Shape Neck - Skip 1dc and sc, re-join color 3 to centre dc on first group, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, continue with Pattern Row on these stitches until front measures same as back. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With 5.00mm hook, ch24, change to 4.00mm hook, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 1ch, (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next ch, skip 1ch, 1sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last ch2, skip 1ch, 1dc in last ch. Turn. (5 groups)


Work Pattern Row from back until 4 rows have been worked. Fasten off.


Join in color 2 and rpt Pattern Row until 11 rows have been worked from beginning. Fasten off.


Cuff - With 4.00mm hook and RS facing rejoin color 1 to opposite side of cast on edge, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work one more row in sc. Fasten off.


With WS facing join shoulder seams, fold sleeves in half lengthways, then placing folds to shoulder seams sew sleeves in position. Join side and sleeve seams. (see pic)









Front Edging - With WS facing and starting at left lower edge, work 1 row of sc evenly up right front, round neck, down left front and along bottom edge of coat working 3sc in each corner. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - Work 1sc in each sc along bottom of coat to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in next sc, * (ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 6sc, * rpt from * to * twice, ch2, skip 1sc, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc around neck to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc down front edge to corner, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc. Turn.


Working 3sc in corners and starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1 more row of 1sc in each sc and ch2 space around coat to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.


Hat - With 5.00mm hook ch51, sl st to first ch to form a ring, change to 4.00mm hook, ch2, 1dc in each ch to end, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Turn. (52dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt last row until 15 rows have been worked or work measures approx 6 inches from beginning. Turn. Fasten off.


Brim - Working in back loop of stitch only using color 3 ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1dc, (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next dc, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, skip ch1, (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next dc, skip 1dc, 1sc in next ch, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (13 groups)


Next Row - ch3, 1sc in centre dc of group, * (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next sc, 1sc in centre dc of next group, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn.


Starting next row with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, join in color 2 and rpt pattern rows as set 3 more times making 5 rows in all  for brim. Fasten off. Fold brim from loose loops onto front of hat.


Rejoin color 1 to loose loops around bottom of brim and ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each loose loop to end, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Chain Tie - With color 2 and 4.00mm hook, ch55. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim. With slip stitched seam in centre of back, thread chain tie through alternative dc's on row 4 from cast on edge, gather up tightly and tie in a bow on the front of hat.
