110 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Colour 1
30 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Colour 2
4.00mm crochet hook, 2 small buttons
TENSION - 4tr and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Back - With colour 1 make 43ch loosely, work 1tr into 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1tr
into each ch to end. Turn. (41tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until 19 rows have been worked in all. Fasten off.
Bottom Edge - With WS facing, join colour 2 to cast on edge (starting chain) with
a ss, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn (41dc)
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 2ch, work 4 more rows of 1dc into each dc turning
at the end of each row. Fasten off.
Front - With colour 1, make 43ch loosely, 1tr into 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1tr into
each ch to end. Turn. (41tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until 12 rows have been worked in all. Turn.
Front Split and Neck shaping
Right Hand Side - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 19tr, turn leaving
21tr un-worked. (20tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until 4 rows have been worked in all from split.
Shape Neck
Right Front Neck - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 13tr, turn leaving
6tr un-worked. (14tr)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into each
tr to end. Turn. (13tr).
Next Row - (Dec Row) 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 9tr, tr2tog
over next 2tr, 1tr into last tr. Turn. (12tr) Fasten off.
Return to 21 un-worked tr on front split.
Left Hand Side - Miss 1tr, rejoin colour 1 to next tr, 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch,
1tr into each tr to end. (20tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until 4 rows have been worked in all from split. Fasten off.
Shape Neck
Left Front Neck - Miss 6tr, rejoin colour 1 to next tr, 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch,
1tr into each tr to end. Turn. (14tr)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each of next 10tr, tr2tog
over next 2tr, 1tr into last tr. Turn. (13tr)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into each
tr to end. Turn. (12tr). Fasten off.
Bottom Edge - With WS facing, using colour 2, work on opposite side of cast on chain,
(same as you did for the back) starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 5 rows
of 1dc into each dc, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.
Button/Buttonhole Bands (written for a boy, swap sides for a girl)
Button Band - With WS facing and working from neck downwards, join in colour 2, work
2dc into each row end to end, 1dc into base of button band. Turn. (9dc)
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc turning
at the end of each row. Fasten off.
Buttonhole Band - Return to second side and working from bottom up towards neck edge,
join in colour 2 with a ss to bottom of band, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2dc
into each row end to end. Turn. (9dc)
Buttonhole Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next
5dc, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each 1ch space and dc to end.
(9dc). Fasten off.
Sleeves x 2 - With colour 1 make 27ch loosely, work 1tr into 3rd ch from hook, (RS)
1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (25tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Next Row - (Inc Row) 2ch, 2tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to last tr, 2tr
into tr. Turn.
Rpt last row until you have 35tr left or 7 rows have been worked in all. Turn.
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Fasten off. (35tr
and 8 rows worked in all).
Cuff - With WS facing and using colour 2, starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,
work 5 rows of 1dc into each dc along cast on edge, (starting chain) turning at the
end of each row. Fasten off.
Hood - With colour 1 make 69ch loosely, 1tr into 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1tr into
each ch to end. Turn. (67tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until you have worked 9 rows in all. Fasten off. Turn.
Next Row - Miss 26tr, re-join colour 1 to next tr with a ss, 2ch, 1tr into base of
2ch, 1tr into each of next 14tr, turn leaving 26tr. (15tr)
Next Row - 2ch, 1tr into base of 2ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until centre panel fits along side panels (approx 14tr rows in all)
Fasten off.
Hood Edge Including Ties - With colour 2 make 40ch loosely, ss into 2nd ch from hook,
ss into each ch to end, with WS facing pick up front of hood (cast on edge) work
1dc into each ch to end, make 40ch loosely, ss into 2nd ch from hook, ss into each
ch to end, 1dc into each of next 67dc along front of hood, ss to next ss. Turn.
Starting with 1ch work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc along front of hood, ss to
next ss. Fasten off.
Whip stitch centre panel to side panels.
Finishing - Working on WS of work whip stitch shoulder seams together, fold sleeves
in half lengthways, place centre fold to shoulder seam, whip stitch sleeves into
position.
Join side and sleeve seams. (see diagram)
Starting from left hand side of placket, attach hood to sweater by whip stitching
seams together, making sure ties are on the RS and seams are evenly placed along
back of sweater, gather any fullness as you go.
Weave in and trim off all loose ends.
