150 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Colour 2

4.00mm & 5.00mm crochet hooks

5 small buttons

TENSION -

4ps and 2 rows of pattern measures approx 1” using 4.00mm hook

Jacket -

Using colour 1 and 5.00mm hook, make 44ch, change to 4.00mm hook, (WS) work 1ps (see abbrev) into 4th ch from hook, 1ps into each of next 3ch, (front), (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into next ch, 1ps into each of next 8ch, (shoulder), (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into next ch, 1ps into each of next 12ch, (back), (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into next ch, 1ps into each of next 8ch, (shoulder), (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into next ch, 1ps into each of next 4ch, 1tr into last ch. Turn. (36ps, 9tr, 4, 2ch spaces + 3ch)

Row 2 - 3ch, * work 1tr into each st to next 2ch space, (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into 2ch space, 1tr into each st to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (53tr, 4, 2ch spaces + 3ch)

Row 3 - 3ch, * work 1ps into each tr to 2ch space, (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) into 2ch space, 1ps into each tr end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt Rows 2 & 3 until seven rows have been worked in all, you should have 93st, 4, ch2 spaces + ch3 at the end of Row 7.

Row 8 - 3ch, * work 1tr into each st to 2ch space, (2tr, 2ch, 2tr) into 2ch space, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, (2tr, 2ch, 2tr) into 2ch space, 1tr into each st to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (109tr, 4, 2ch spaces + 3ch)

Row 9 - (Divide for armholes) 3ch, 1ps into each of next 13tr, 2ps into 2ch space, miss 26tr, 2ps into next 2ch space, 1ps into each of next 30tr, 2ps into 2ch space, miss 26tr, 2ps into next 2ch space, 1ps into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65st + 3ch)

Row 10 - 3ch, 1tr into each ps to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)

Row 11 - 3ch, 1ps into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Rpt Rows 10 and 11 until 16 rows have been worked from beginning. Turn. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 -

With WS facing and 4.00mm hook rejoin yarn to 2ch space underarm where you divided, make 3ch, work 1ps into each of next 26tr, 1tr into 2ch space on opposite side of sleeve, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (27st + 3ch)

Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each st to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (27tr + 3ch)

Rpt rows alternately one ps row followed by one tr row until 8 rows have been worked from division. Fasten off. Turn.

Cuff -

Join in colour 2, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc. Turn. (28dc)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc. Turn.

Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

Button/Buttonhole Bands -

With RS facing, join colour 2 to lower edge of right hand side of front edge, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 33 more dc evenly up first front edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, work 33dc evenly down second front edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each tr along bottom of jacket to next corner, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc. Turn.

Next Row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each of next 2dc, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 7dc * rpt from * to * three more times, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 3dc into corner on neck edge, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc to down second front edge, ss to first dc. Turn. (5 Buttonholes made) (swap buttonholes to opposite side for girl)

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Fasten off.

Return to buttonhole side of front bands and working from neck downwards, join in colour 2, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to corner. Fasten off.

Finishing - Close small gap under each arm, weave in any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Pants -

Using colour 2 and 5.00mm hook make 72ch, ss to first ch to form a round, change to 4.00mm hook, make 3ch, (WS) work 1ps into each ch, to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (71ps + 3ch)

Continue repeating rows alternately one tr row followed by one ps row until 11 rows have been worked or work measures approx 5 Inches from beginning. Turn.

Divide for legs - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 35ps, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Continue on these stitches in the same way repeating rows alternately one ps row followed by one tr row plus slip stitching and turning at the end of each row until 10 rows have been worked from division or until leg seam measures approx 5 Inches Turn. Fasten off.

Cuff -

Join in colour 1, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each ps to end, ss to first dc. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc. Turn. Rpt last row once. Fasten off.

Second Leg - Return to division, rejoin colour 1 to next tr, complete second leg the same as the first. Fasten off.

With WS of work facing and colour 1, work 72dc evenly along cast on edge at waist, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. Rpt last row twice. Fasten off.

Chain Tie - Using colour 1 and 4.00mm hook, make 130ch. Fasten off.

Finishing - Weave in all loose ends of yarn, thread chain tie through alternate tr's on waist and tie with a bow.

Helmet -

With colour 2, make 6ch and join with a ss to form a ring, 3ch, work 13tr into ring, join with ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

Row 2 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 2tr in each of next 13tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (27tr + 3ch)

Row 3 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (41tr + 3ch)

Row 4 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (55tr + 3ch)

Row 5 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 7tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 7tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (62tr + 3ch)

Rows 6-12 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off.

Row 13 - Join in colour 1, * make 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, ss to dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Rpt Row 13 from * once working into dc not tr's. Fasten off.

Earflaps -

Counting from back seam, with RS facing and colour 1 yarn, miss 12dc, rejoin yarn to next dc, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 7dc. Turn leaving 42dc un-worked. (8dc)

Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row twice. Turn.

Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, dec 1dc over first 2dc, (see abbev) 1dc into each dc to last 2dc, dec 1 dc over last 2dc. Turn.

Rpt last row twice. Turn. (2dc)

ss to last dc to make a point, make 50ch for tie. Fasten off.

Return to un-worked 42dc, miss 22dc, rejoin yarn to next dc, continue second earflap same as the first. Fasten off.

If you are making the outfit for a baby girl leave out the earflaps.

Make a pom-pom - Using colour 1 make a pom-pom, I used Clover pom-pom maker size 45

Finishing - Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn. Attach pom-pom to crown, use chain ties on earflaps to make a bow.
