Hooded Coat - Worked in one piece starting with yoke.


Using color 1 ch49, (RS) 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in the next 4ch’s (front), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in next 8ch’s (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 15ch’s (back), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 8ch’s. (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 6ch’s (front). Turn. (54dc + ch3)


2nd Row - (Inc Row) ch3, * 1dc in each dc to next 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc of 3dc group, 1dc in each dc to ch3 to turn with, work 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (62dc + ch3)

 

3rd to 6th Row - rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (94dc + ch3)


7th Row - (Inc Row) ch3, * 1dc in each dc to next 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 5dc in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 5dc in centre dc of 3dc group, 1dc in each dc to ch3 to turn with, work 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (110dc + ch3)


Divide for Armholes - Change to 4.50mm hook, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 13dc, 2sc in centre dc of next 5dc group, skip 24dc, 2sc in centre dc of next 5dc group, 1sc in each of next 31dc, 2sc in centre dc of next 5dc group, skip 24dc, 2sc in centre dc of next 5dc group, 1sc in each of next 13dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Fasten off. Turn. (67sc)


Commence Skirt - Join in color 2, ch3, (RS) 1dc in base of ch3, * skip 1sc, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, skip 1sc, 2dc in last sc. Turn. (32, 3dc groups)


Pattern Row 1 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 2dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn, ch2, skip 2dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (33, ch2 spaces)


Pattern Row 2 - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip ch2, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 and sc, skip ch2, 2dc in sc. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 six more times until eight 3dc group rows have been worked from yoke or work measure approx 9 Inches from shoulder. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing, using 4.50mm hook rejoin color 1 to centre dc of 3dc under arm, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 24dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc on opposite side of sleeve under arm, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off. Turn. (2sc)


Next Row - (RS) Join in color 2, ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip 2sc, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, skip 1sc, 1dc in sc at base of ch3, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (9, 3dc groups)


1st Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 2dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, ch2, skip 2dc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (9, ch2 spaces)


2nd Row - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip ch2, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2, skip ch2, 1dc in base of ch3, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt 1st & 2nd Rows until five 3dc group rows have been worked from yoke or the under arm sleeve seam will measure approx 3.5 Inches. Fasten off.


Cuff - Using 4.00mm hook, join in color 1, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (27sc)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.


Button/Buttonhole Bands - With RS facing, 4.00mm hook and color 1, start at lower edge on right front, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 37 more sc evenly in row ends up first front edge to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch around neck to next corner, 3sc in corner, work 37sc evenly in row ends down second front edge to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each dc along bottom of coat to end, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc to neck edge. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to next corner. Fasten off.


Buttonhole Band - Return to opposite side of front edge and working on WS from the neck downwards, ch1, work 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 6sc, * rpt from * to * once, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of remaining sc to corner. Turn. (3 buttonholes made)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end. Fasten off.


To make the hooded coat for a boy, swap Buttonhole Band to opposite side.


Hood - With 4.50mm hook and color 1 ch58, work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, * skip ch2, 3dc in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last ch3, skip ch2, work 2dc in last ch. Turn. (17, 3dc groups)


Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 2dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn, ch2, skip 2dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (18, ch2 spaces)


Row 3 - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip ch2, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 and sc, skip ch2, 2dc in sc. Turn.


Rpt Rows 2 & 3 until nine 3dc group rows have been worked or work measures approx 6 Inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Fold hood in half width ways, with WS facing, color 1 and using 4.50mm hook, sl st loosely through both sides of cast on ch's to close back seam. Fasten off.


Neck Edging - Using color 1, working on WS work 48sc evenly in row ends along neck edge to end. Fasten off.


Join Hood to Coat - With WS facing and skipping button/buttonhole bands from each side, attach the hood to neck edge on jacket by slip stitching through sc on coat and sc on neck edge of hood or you can over sew them together with a needle and yarn if you want.


Finishing - Close small gaps underarms on sleeves, weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim off, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
