30 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Colour 2

TENSION - 4tr and 2.5 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Peaked Cap - Worked in rounds without turning to peak.
With colour 1, make 8ch, ss to 1st ch to make a ring.
Round 1 - (RS) 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into ring, * (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into ring, * rpt from
* to * 4 more times, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round. (23tr, 6, 1ch spaces
+ 3ch)
Round 2 - ss to first 1ch space, 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into same ch space,
* miss 2tr, 1tr into space between next 2tr, miss 2tr, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into 1ch space
* rpt from * to * to remaining tr, miss 2tr, 1tr into space between next 2tr and
3ch, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round.
Round 3 - ss to first 1ch space, 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into same ch space,
* miss 2tr, 1tr into space between next tr, 1tr into tr, 1tr into space between next
tr, miss 2tr, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to remaining tr,
miss 2tr, 1tr into space between next tr, 1tr into tr, 1tr into space between next
tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round.
Round 4 - ss to first 1ch space, 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into same ch space, * miss 2tr,
1tr into space between next tr, 1tr into next 3tr, 1tr into space between next tr,
miss 2tr, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into 1ch space, * rpt from * to * to remaining tr, miss
2tr, 1tr into space between next tr, 1tr into next 3tr, 1tr into space between next
tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of round.
Round 5 - Rpt Round 4 once increasing in the same way, you should have 7 single tr
between shells.
Round 6 - ss to first 1ch space, 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into same ch space,
* miss 2tr, 1tr into each of next 7tr, miss 2tr, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into 1ch space,
* rpt from * to * to remaining tr, miss 2tr, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of
3ch on beginning of round.
Rpt Round 6 four more times until 10 rounds have been worked in all. Fasten off.
Peak - With RS facing join colour 2 to the single tr after one of the shells, 1ch,
1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 8tr, 1dc into 1ch space, 1dc into next
9tr. Turn. (19dc)
Next Row - Dec 1dc over first 2dc, (see abbrev) 1dc into each dc to last 2dc, dec
1dc over last 2dc. Turn.
Rpt last row until 7dc remain. Fasten off.
Cap Edge - With WS of work facing, join colour 2 to first tr at base of peak on the
left hand side of cap, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr and 1ch space
around cap to right hand side of peak, work 1dc into each row end up first side of
peak, 1dc into each dc along the top of peak, 1dc into each row end down second side
of peak, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc all
around the peak and cap to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Covered Button - With colour 2, make 8ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each
ch to end. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 5 more rows of 1dc into each dc, fasten
off leaving a long length of yarn.
Thread yarn evenly all around through dc, place medium size button in center and
gather around it tightly, secure so that button cannot break free.
Attach button over hole at crown on cap and sew into position.
Finishing - Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, decorate with an animal
motif if you wish.
Booties
Sole - With colour 1, make 11ch, (RS) 3htr into 4th ch from hook, 1htr into each
of next 6ch, 8htr into last ch, working on opposite side of cast on ch, work 1htr
into each of next 6ch, 4htr into last ch, ss to top of the 3ch on beginning of row.
DNT. (27htr + 2ch)
2nd Round - 2ch, work 2htr into each of next 3htr, 1htr into each of next 8htr, 2htr
into each of next 6htr, 1htr into each of next 8htr, 2htr into each of last 2htr,
1htr into base of 2ch, ss to top of 2ch. DNT. (39htr + 2ch)
3rd Round - 2ch, miss first htr, 1htr into each htr to end, 1htr into base of 2ch,
ss to top of 2ch. DNT. (39htr + 2ch)
4th Round - Working into back loop of stitch only, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,
1dc into each htr to end, ss to first dc. Turn (40dc)
5th Round - Working through both loops make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each
dc to end, ss to first dc. Turn (40dc)
Rpt last row once. Fasten off.
Instep
With WS facing and counting from where you fastened off, miss 10dc, rejoin yarn with
a ss too next dc, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next 19dc. Turn leaving 10dc
un-worked. (20dc)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, (see abbrev
above) 9 times, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (11dc)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1dc in base of 1ch, (dec 1dc over next 2dc) 5 times. Turn.
(6dc)
Next Row - (Dec Row) Make 1ch, insert hook and pull up loop in each dc, yrh and pull
through all 7 loops on hook to close, work 1ch. Fasten off.
Top - With colour 1 and WS facing rejoin yarn to back seam, make 1ch, 1dc into base
of 1ch, work 1dc into each of next 9dc, 8dc evenly across top of instep, work 1dc
into each of next 10dc, ss to first dc. Turn. (28dc)
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into base of 3ch, * miss 1dc, 1tr into each of next
3dc, miss 1dc, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc, miss
1dc, 1tr into next dc, 2tr into next dc, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Fasten off. (5, shell groups)
Pattern Round - ss to first 1ch space, 3ch, 1tr, 1ch, 2tr into same ch space, * miss
2tr, 1tr into each of next 3tr, miss 2tr, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into 1ch space, * rpt from
* to * to remaining tr, miss 2tr, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning
of round.
Rpt Pattern Round twice. Fasten off. Turn.
Contrast Colour Edge - Join yarn to tr on back seam after the shell group, 1ch, 1dc
into base of 1ch, * 1dc into each tr to 1ch space, (1dc 2ch, 1dc) into same space,
* rpt from * to * to end, 1dc into each of the remaining tr, ss to first dc on beginning
of row. Fasten off.
With the back seam towards you and sole facing upwards, rejoin colour 2 to loose
loops on the sole of the bootie at the back seam, work one row of crab stitch, (see
abbrev) around sole to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
Finishing - Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, decorate with small motifs
or animal buttons.
