Abbreviations

ch.      Chain

hdc.    Half Double Crochet

rpt.     Repeat

sl st.   Slip Stitch

DNT.   Do Not Turn.

Base of ch. Work in first stitch

Size to fit approx:

4-5lb Preemie baby

Materials

40 grams of Stylecraft Special DK

OR

1.45oz of Light Worsted Weight #3

4.50mm crochet hook

GAUGE - 6hdc and 3 rows measures approx 1 Inch

ch36, 1hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1hdc in each ch to end. Turn. (35hdc)

Pattern Row - Working through back loop of stitch throughout, ch1, 1hdc in base of ch1, 1hdc in each hdc to end. Turn.

Continue with Pattern Row until 31 rows have been worked in all. Turn.

Fold work in half from bottom to top, sl st loosely the cast on edge and last row worked to make a round (you can use a larger hook if you want for this).

Chain Tie - ch70. Fasten off.

Finishing - Weave in all loose ends of yarn and trim off, thread chain tie through alternate rows of stitches on hat approx 1 inch from top and tie in a bow, turn back bottom of hat onto main piece approx 1.5 inches or what you require for size of brim.
