3 Buttons


TENSION - 5htr and 3 rows measures approx 1 inch

Back is left open from yoke downwards for easy access.


Worked in one piece starting with the yoke.


With colour 1 make 42ch, (RS) 1htr into 3rd ch from hook, 1htr into each of next 4ch, 3htr into next ch, 1htr into each of next 6ch, 3htr into next ch, 1htr into each of next 14ch, 3htr into next ch, 1htr into each of next 6ch, 3htr into next ch, 1htr into each of next 5ch. Turn. (48htr)


Row 2 - (Inc Row) 2ch, 1htr into base of 2ch, * 1htr into each htr to 3htr group, 1htr into next htr, 3htr into centre htr on htr group, *  rpt from * to * to last 3htr group, 1htr into next htr, 3htr into centre htr on 3htr group, 1htr into each htr to end. Turn. (56htr)


Rpt Row 2 until nine rows have been worked in all, you should have 112htr at the end of Row 9.


Row 10 - (Divide for armholes) 2ch, 1htr into base of 2ch, 1htr into each of next 13htr, 2htr into next htr, miss 24htr, (armhole) 2htr into next htr, 1htr into each of next 32htr, 2htr into next htr, miss 24htr, (armhole) 2htr into next htr, 1htr into each of next 14htr. Fasten off. Turn. (68htr)


Commence Skirt - Using colour 2 and working into back loop of stitch only (RS) work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1htr, shell into next htr, (see abbrev) miss 1htr, 1dc into next htr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into top of 2ch. Turn. (17, shell groups)


Work through both loops of stitch from now on.


Pattern Row 1 - 4ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into 1ch space of shell group, * make 1ch, miss 2tr, vst into next dc, (see abbrev) make 1ch, miss 2tr, 1dc into 1ch space of shell group * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and dc, make 1ch, miss 2tr, 1tr into last dc. Turn.    


Pattern Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1ch space, shell into next dc, miss 1ch space, 1dc into next 1ch space on vst, * rpt from * to * to last dc and 4ch to turn, shell into dc, 1dc into 3rd of 4ch. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until 10 shell group rows have been worked in all, your work should measure approx 10.5 Inches from shoulder. Fasten off. Turn.


Bottom Edging & Button/Buttonhole Bands -

With WS facing and colour 1, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into each of next 2tr, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next 1ch space, 1dc into next 2tr, ss into dc, * rpt from * to * to end working 3dc into last dc not a ss, work 39dc evenly into row ends up first back edge, 3dc into corner, working along cast on edge work 1dc into each of the starting ch around neck, 3dc into corner, work 39dc evenly into row ends down second back edge, work 1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 28dc, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 3dc into next dc, 1dc into each dc around neck, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc down second back edge. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to neck edge, work (1dc, 1ss) into corner, ss into each dc around neck edge to next corner, work (1ss, 1dc) into corner, 1dc into each dc and 2ch space down back edge to end. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing, rejoin colour 1 around side of htr where you divided at base of armhole, 2ch, 1htr around same stitch, 1htr into each of next 24dc, 1htr around side of htr under arm on opposite side of sleeve, ss to first htr on beginning of row. Turn. (26htr)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) into next htr, miss 1htr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (12, 2ch spaces) Fasten off.


Finishing - Close small gaps under arms, weave in any loose ends of yarn and trim off, attach small buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

(Optional) decorate with an animal motif.
