100 grams of Stylecraft Special DK yarn in main color

25 grams of Stylecraft Special DK yarn in each of the 5 contrast colors


OR

3.5oz of Light Worsted Weight #3 Yarn in main color

0.90oz of Light Worsted Weight #3 Yarn in each of the 5 contrast colors

4.00mm crochet hook, 5 Buttons


GAUGE - 4dc and 3 rows of pattern measures approx 1 Inch

Back - With main color, ch46, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (43dc + ch3)


Rib Row - ch3, * fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (see abbrev for fpdc & bpdc)


Rpt Rib Row twice more.


Next Row - (RS) ch3, work 1dc in each stitch to last dc and ch3, skip dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. Fasten off. (42dc + ch3)

Change to contrast color. (rows 1 to 3)

 

Row 1 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc (see abbrev) in next dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3 to turn with, 1trc in dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (21trc)


Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn. (43sc)


Row 3 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off.


Change to main color. (rows 4 to 6)


Row 4 - ch3, 1dc in each stitch to end. Turn. (42dc + ch3)


Row 5 - Rpt Pattern Row 2.


Row 6 - Rpt Pattern Row 4. Fasten off.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 to 6 four more times until work measures approx 11.5 inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Left Front - # With main color, ch22, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (19dc + ch3)


Rib Row - ch3, * fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Rib Row twice more.


Next Row - ch3, work 1dc in each stitch to last dc and ch3, skip dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. Fasten off. (18dc + ch3)


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 to 6 from back four times or until work measures 9 Inches from beginning. Turn. #

 

Shape Neck - Skip 4dc, join in contrast color yarn to next dc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3 to turn with, 1trc in dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (7trc)

 

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn. (15sc)

 

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off.


Change to main color.

Right Front - Work same as Left from # to #


Shape Neck - Join in contrast color, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc and ch3 to turn with. Turn leaving the 3dc and ch3 un-worked. (7trc)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn. (15sc)

 

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1trc in next sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. Fasten off.


Change to main color.


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch3, dec 1dc over next 2st, 1dc in each of next 12st. Turn. (13dc + ch3)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc to last 2dc and ch3 to turn, dec 1sc over next 2dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (13sc)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) ch3, dec 1dc over next 2sc, 1dc in each of next 10sc. (11dc + ch3) Fasten off.


Whipstitch or sl st shoulder seams together.


Sleeves x 2 - With main color, ch30, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (27dc + ch3)


Rib Row - ch3, * fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Rib Row twice more.


Next Row - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in each dc to ch3 to turn with, 2dc in top of ch3. Turn. Fasten off. (28dc + ch3)


Change to contrast color.


First Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next dc, 1sc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3 to turn with, 1trc in dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.


Second Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn.


Third Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1trc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1trc in next sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. Fasten off.


Change to main color.


Fourth Row - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each stitch to last sc, 2dc in sc.  Turn.


Fifth Row - Rpt Second Row.


Sixth Row - Rpt Fourth Row. Fasten off.


Rpt First to Sixth Rows twice more until you have 40dc + ch3 remaining or sleeve measures approx 7.5 Inches in all from beginning. Fasten off.


Attaching Sleeves - Fold sleeves in half lengthways, place centre to shoulder seams (see picture below) and whipstitch in position (or you can sl st if you prefer)

 

Button/Buttonhole Bands - With RS of work facing and using main color yarn, start on lower edge of right hand front edge, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 41sc evenly in row ends along first front edge, 3sc in corner, work 12sc evenly along first neck edge to shoulder, 1sc in each of next 19sc across back, 12sc evenly along second neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 42sc evenly in row ends down second front edge. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1 more row in sc around fronts and neck edge of cardigan, working 3sc in the corners. Turn.

 

Next Row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 3sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 9sc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc on neck edge. Turn. (5 Buttonholes made)

 

Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch2 space and sc to end. Fasten off.


Button Band - Return to opposite front edge, RS facing and working from neck downwards, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Whipstitch side and sleeve seam together (see picture below) or sl st if you prefer. Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn. Turn through to RS. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
