Materials
110 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Main colour
80 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in contrast colour
Small amounts of sky and red DK yarn for boat
5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks
1 Novelty and 2 Medium buttons
TENSION - 4tr and 2.5 rows of tr's measures approx 1” using 4.00mm hook

Sweater Back (Rib) - # With 4.00mm hook and main colour, make 7ch, 1dc into 2nd ch
from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (6dc)
Next Row - Working into back loop only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each
dc to end.
Rpt last row until you have 38dc rows in all. Fasten off.
Body - Working along the side of rib, Join contrast colour yarn to first row end,
work 3ch, 1tr into each row end to end. Turn. (37tr + 3ch)
Pattern Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. #
Rpt Pattern Row until 20tr rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 10
Inches from beginning (including rib) Turn. Fasten off.
Shoulder Fastener - Join in main colour, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into
each of next 10tr, turn leaving remaining stitches un-worked. (11dc). Work 1 more
row in dc on these 11 stitches. Turn.
Next Row (Buttonholes) - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc, 2ch, miss next
dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into last 2dc. Turn. (2 buttonholes
made).
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Turn.
Work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.
Sweater Front - Rpt from # to # on back of sweater.
Rpt Pattern Row from back of sweater until 15 rows have been worked in all or work
measures approx 7.5 Inches from beginning (including rib) Turn.
Shape Neck (Side 1) - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 12tr, turn leaving 24tr and 3ch
un-worked. (12tr + 3ch)
2nd Row (Dec Row) - 3ch, tr2tog (see abbrev) over next 2tr, 1tr into each tr to end,
1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (11tr + 3ch)
3rd Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
4th Row (Dec Row) - 3ch, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into
top of 3ch. Turn. (10tr + 3ch)
5th Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Shape Neck (Side 2) - Return to remaining stitches on front neck, miss 12tr, join
contrast colour yarn to next tr, make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 11tr, 1tr into top
of 3ch. Turn. (12tr + 3ch)
Next Row (Dec Row) - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 9tr, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into
top of 3ch. Turn. (11tr + 3ch)
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
Next Row (Dec Row) - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 8tr, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into
top of 3ch. Turn. (10tr + 3ch)
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Sleeves x 2 - Starting with rib and main colour, make 7ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook,
1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (6dc)
Next Row - Working into back loop only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each
dc to end.
Rpt last row until you have 25dc rows worked in all. Fasten off.
Next Row - (Inc Row) Working along the side of rib, join contrast colour yarn to
first row end, work 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 23 row ends,
work 2tr into last row end. Turn. (26tr + 3ch)
Next Row - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 2tr into
top of 3ch. Turn. (28tr + 3ch)
Rpt last row until you have 36tr and 3ch left or 6tr rows have been worked in all
from rib. Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Rpt last row twice.
Fasten off.
With WS side facing, join right hand shoulder seam together by slip stitching loosely
or over sewing with a needle and yarn, leave left shoulder seam open (the side with
extra rows on back for fold over and buttonholes), fold sleeves in half lengthways,
then placing centre folds to shoulders over sew with needle and yarn or slip stitch
loosely into position. Join side and sleeve seams together by over sew or slip stitch.
Neck Edge - Using contrast colour yarn with WS facing and starting on side of open
shoulder, work 10dc down front edge, 12dc across front, 10dc up second front edge,
1dc into each of the 16tr along the back. Turn. Fasten off (48dc)
Next Row - Join in main colour yarn, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each
of next 25dc, dc2tog (see abbrev) over next 2dc, 1dc into each of next 10dc, dc2tog
over next 2dc, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Work one more row of 1dc into each
dc to end. Fasten off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose threads of yarn, sew on contrast colour
buttons to correspond with buttonholes on shoulders and fasten.
Pants (legs) Starting with rib and working up towards the waist.
* With main colour yarn, make 7ch, (RS) 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each
ch to end. Turn. (6dc)
Next Row - Working into back loop of stitch only, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,
1dc into each dc to end. Turn.
Rpt last row until 45 rows have been worked in all. Turn.
Fold rib in half and with WS facing ss cast on edge and last row of dc you worked
together to make a round.
Working into side of the rows on rib, work 3ch, 1tr into each row end to end, ss
to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (44tr + 3ch)
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row until you have 11 tr rows worked in all or work measures approx 6 Inches
(including rib). Turn. * Fasten off.
Rpt from * to * for second leg. Turn, DO NOT fasten off.
Pants Top - Make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 44tr, DO NOT ss or turn, pick up first
leg (see pic) and working from slip stitch seam, work 1tr into top of 3ch, 1tr into
each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginn
ing of row. (89tr + 3ch)
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row until you have 11 tr rows worked in all from crotch. Turn.
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first
dc. Fasten off. (90dc).
Chain Tie - With 5.00mm hook and using main colour yarn double, make 130ch. Fasten
off.
Boat Appliqué
Sail - With sky blue yarn and 4.00mm hook make 16ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc
into each ch to end. Turn. (15dc)
Next Row - (Dec Row) dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc into each dc to last 2dc, dc2tog over
last 2dc. Turn.
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.
Rpt last 2 rows until you have 3dc remaining. Turn.
Insert hook and pull up loop from next 3dc, yrh and pull through all loops. Fasten
off.
Boat - Join main colour to cast on edge along bottom of sail, 1ch, 1dc into base
of 1ch, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (15dc)
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.
Next Row - (Dec Row) dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc into each dc to last 2dc, dc2tog over
last 2dc. Turn.
Rpt last 2 rows until 11 dc remain. Work 2 more rows in dc. Fasten off.
Flag - Using red colour yarn, working up the centre stitch on sail and starting from
row on boat, work 12ch evenly over dc's up to the top of sail, work 5 more ch, 1dc
into 2nd ch from hook, 1htr into next ch, 1tr into next ch, 1dtr into next ch. Fasten
off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie of loose ends of yarn. Close small gap at division of
legs on pants. Thread chain tie through alternate tr at waist and tie with a bow.
Attach boat appliqué to front of sweater, sew novelty button to boat.
