TENSION - One (3tr group, dc) and 2 rows of pattern measures approx 1” square

Yoke - Worked in one piece. Using 4.00mm hook and main colour make 55ch, (RS) 1tr
in 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end (52tr + 3ch) Turn.
Row 2 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr in next tr, * 2tr in next tr, 1tr in each of next 3tr,
* rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch to turn, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr,
1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)
Row 3 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
Row 4 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next
2tr * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (86tr + 3ch)
Row 5 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.
Row 6 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next
2tr * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch (114tr + 3ch) Turn.
Row 7 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn
Row 8 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next
2tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, 2tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch.
Turn. (152tr + 3ch)
Row 9 - (Divide for armholes and Increase) 3ch, 1tr into each of next 4tr, * 2tr
into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * 5 more times, 2tr into
next tr, miss 27tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, rpt from * to * 16 more times, 2tr
into next tr, miss 27tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, rpt from * to * 6 more times,
tr into each of next 3tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (128tr + 3ch)
Commence Skirt - With 4.00mm hook, make 3ch, work 1tr into base of 3ch, * miss 1tr,
1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, 3tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr and 3ch,
miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, 2tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (31, 3tr Groups)
Pattern Row 1 - Work into back loop only of all dc's from now on, make 1ch, 1dc into
base of 1ch, * miss 1tr, 3tr into next dc, miss 1tr, 1dc into centre tr of 3tr group,
* rpt from * to * to last dc, tr and 3ch, miss 1tr, 3tr into last dc, miss 1tr, 1dc
into top of 3ch. Turn.
Pattern Row 2 - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * miss 1tr, 1dc into centre tr of 3tr
group, miss 1tr, 3tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group and dc, miss
1tr, 1dc into centre tr of 3tr group, work 2tr into last dc. Turn.
The last 2 rows form the pattern rpt both rows until 14 rows have been worked in
all from yoke or work measures 9 inches from shoulder.
Using first contrast colour work Pattern Row 2, Fasten off. Using second contrast
colour work Pattern Row 1. Fasten off. Using third contrast colour Work Pattern Row
2. Fasten off.
Join in main colour and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once each, until 19 rows have been
worked in all or work measures approx 10.5 inches from shoulder. Fasten off.
Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing rejoin main colour yarn to side of tr underarm, 3ch,
1tr into same space, * 1dc into next tr, miss 1tr, 3tr into next tr, miss 1tr, *
rpt from * to * across to side of tr on opposite side of sleeve, work 1dc into side
of tr, ss to top of 3ch. Turn. (7, 3tr Groups)
Pattern Row - Working into back loop only of all dc's, make 1ch, ss into first dc,
3ch, 2tr into same dc, * miss 1tr, 1dc into centre tr of 3tr group, miss 1tr, 3tr
into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, miss 1tr, 1dc into next tr, ss
to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
The last row forms the pattern, rpt the row 8 more times, making 10 Pattern Rows
in all. Fasten off.
Work Pattern Row once in each of the 3 contrast colours. Fasten off.
Join in main colour and work Pattern Row twice. Fasten off.
Buttonhole Band - (Written for a girl, swap sides for a boy)
With main colour, RS facing and starting on lower edge on right hand front, work
48dc evenly up right front to end. Turn.
Next row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next
7dc, * rpt from * to * once more, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of the remaining dc.
Turn. (3 Buttonholes)
Next row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and ch space to end. DNT.
Starting with 1ch, work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev above) Fasten off.
Button Band - With RS facing rejoin main colour yarn to neck edge on left hand side
of coat, working from neck downwards, work 48dc evenly to bottom. Turn. Starting
with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work two more rows in dc on these stitches turning
at the end of each row. DNT. Starting with 1ch, work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev
above) Fasten off.
