60 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Colour 2

4.00mm crochet hook

3 small buttons


GAUGE - 4dc and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Matinee Coat - Worked in one piece, starting with yoke. Using color 1 - ch55, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (52dc + ch3)


2nd Row - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of the next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in last dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (65dc + ch3)


3rd Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Fasten off. Turn.


4th Row - (Inc Row) Join in color 2, ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of the next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc in top of ch3. Fasten off. Turn. (81dc + ch3)


5th Row - Join in color 1 and rpt 3rd Row.


6th Row - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of the next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3, 2dc in dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Fasten off. Turn. (108dc + ch3)


7th Row - Join in color 2 and rpt 3rd Row. Fasten off.


8th Row - (Inc Row) Join in color 1 and rpt Row 6. (144dc + ch3)


9th Row - (Divide for Armholes) ch3, 1dc in each of next 22dc, skip 26dc, (armhole) 1dc in each of next 47dc, skip 26dc, (armhole) 1dc in each of next 22dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (92dc + ch3)


Commence with Skirt - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, skip 1dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in next dc, * skip 1dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3, skip dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (45, ch2 spaces)


Pattern Row 1 - ch3, 3dc in each ch2 space to end, 1dc in last sc. Turn. (45, 3dc groups)


Pattern Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, skip 1dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in centre dc of 3dc group, * skip 2dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to to last dc and ch3 to turn with, skip 1dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until twelve rows have been worked in all from yoke or work measures approx 8.5 Inches from shoulder. Turn. Fasten off.


Join color 2 to first sc with a sl st and rpt Pattern Row 1. Turn. Fasten off.


Join color 1 to first dc with a sl st and work Pattern Row 2 once.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once more. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With RS facing join color 1 to the first of the 26dc you skipped for armhole, ch3, 1dc in each of next 25dc, sl st to top of ch3 at beginning of round. Turn. (25dc + ch3)


Round 2 - sl st in first dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in next dc, skip 1dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, skip dc's, sl st to first sc on beginning of row to make a round. Turn. (12, ch2 spaces)


Pattern Round 1 - sl st in ch2 space, ch3, 2dc in same space, work 3dc in each ch2 space to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round. Turn. (12, 3dc groups)


Pattern Round 2 - sl st in first dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in next dc, skip 2dc, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of round. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rounds 1 & 2 until eight rounds have been worked in all from yoke or underarm sleeve seam measures approx 3 Inches.


Rpt Pattern Round 1 in color 2 once. Turn. Fasten off.


Rpt Pattern Round 2 in color 1 once. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rounds 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.


Button/Buttonhole Bands

With RS facing, join color 1 to lower edge of right hand side of front edge, work 40 sl st loosely in row ends evenly up front edge to corner. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sl st to end. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each of next 24sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 6sc * rpt from * to * once, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (3 Buttonholes made)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work one more row of 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end. Fasten off.


Button Band - Working downwards join color 1 to neck edge on opposite front, work 40 sl st loosely in row ends evenly down front edge to corner. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sl st to end. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1 and turning at the end of each row, work 2 more rows of 1sc in each sc to end. Fasten off.


Pants - Using color 2 - ch10 loosely. Fasten off. (leave to one side as we will come back to later).


Back - Using color 2 ch45 loosely, work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (42dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt last row until 9 rows have been worked. Fasten off. Turn.


Shape legs - Skip 10dc, join yarn to next dc, ch3, dec 1dc (see abbrev) over next 2dc, 1dc in each of next 17dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc in next dc, turn leaving 9dc + ch3 un-worked. (20dc + ch3)


Decrease Row - ch3, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc in each dc to last 2dc and ch3, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (18dc + ch3)


Rpt Decrease Row until 10dc + ch3 remain. Turn.


Crotch - ch1, 1sc in base of ch, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (11sc)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 3 more rows of 1sc in each sc to end, turning at the end of each row.


Next Row - (Inc Row) ch3, 2dc in next sc, 1dc in each sc to last 2sc, 2dc in next sc, 1dc in last sc. Turn.


Increase Row - ch3, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each dc to last 2dc, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Increase Row until you have 22dc + ch3. Turn.


Front - ch12 loosely, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each of next 8ch, 1dc in each of next 22dc, 1dc in top of ch3, return to 10ch made earlier and work 1dc in each of the 10ch. Turn. (42dc +ch3)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt last row 7 more times. Fasten off.


Fold in half so the front covers the back, over sew with needle and yarn or sl st side seams together, this will now be your WS.


With color 1 and RS facing, join yarn with a sl st at side of waist, ch1, 1sc in each dc around back and 1sc in each ch around front of knickers, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.


Leg Edging - With RS facing and color 1, join yarn to centre of crotch with a sl st, work 47sl st loosely and evenly around leg, sl st to first sl st on beginning of row. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 2 rows of sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of each row. Fasten off.


Rpt Leg Edging on second leg.


Chain Tie - ch101, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Close small gaps underarms, weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn on coat and pants, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes, thread chain tie through alternate dc's on waist of pants and tie in a bow.
