5.00mm, 4.50mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks


5 Buttons


GAUGE - 4dc and 3 rows of pattern measures approx 1” using 4.00mm hook

Cardigan (Back) - With 4.00mm hook and main color, ch10, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (9sc)


Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in sc to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 43 rows have been worked in all from beginning.


Do not turn, work in row ends along side of rib for next row.


Pattern Row 1 - ch3, work 1dc in each stitch to end. Turn. Fasten off.

(42dc + 3ch)

 

Pattern Row 2 - Using contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in base of 1ch, * 1sc in each of next 2dc, dc4tog in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and 3ch to turn with, 1sc in each dc, 1sc in top of 3ch. Turn. (13 dc4tog) Fasten off.


Pattern Row 3 - Join in main color yarn, 3ch, 1dc in each sc and dc4tog to end, Turn. (42dc + 3ch)

 

Pattern Row 4 - 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of 3ch. Turn. (43sc)

 

Pattern Rows 1 to 4 form the pattern, rpt rows six more times each until 7 dc4tog rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 10.5 inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Left Front - # With 4.00mm hook and main color, ch10, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (9sc)


Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only ch1, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in sc to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 19 rows have been worked in all from beginning.


Do not turn, working in row ends along side of rib rpt Pattern Rows 1 to 4 same as for back until five dc4tog rows have been worked in all. Turn. (19st)

 

Next Row - 3ch, 1dc in each sc to end. Turn. (18dc + 3ch) Fasten off. #


Shape Neck - Skip 5dc, rejoin contrast color yarn to next dc, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, * dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1sc in

top of 3ch. Turn. (4, dc4tog) Fasten off.

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) Join in main color yarn, 3ch, 1dc in each of next 10st, dec 1dc (see abbrev) over next 2st, 1dc in last st. Turn. (12dc + 3ch)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, dec 1sc over next 2dc, 1sc in dc to end, 1sc in top of 3ch. Turn. (12sc)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) 3ch, 1dc in each of next 8sc, dec 1dc over next 2sc, 1dc in last sc. Turn. (10dc + 3ch) Fasten off.

 

Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, * dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1sc in top of 3ch. Fasten off.


Join in main color yarn and work Pattern Rows 3 & 4 once. Fasten off. (11sc)


Right Front - Work same as Left from # to #


Shape Neck - 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each of next 2sc, * dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * twice more, dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in next dc. Fasten off. Turn leaving 4dc and 3ch to turn with un-worked. (4, dc4tog)


Next Row - (Dec Row) Join in main color yarn, 3ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc

in each of next 11sc, 1dc in last sc. Turn. (12dc + 3ch)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each dc to last 2dc and 3ch to turn, dec 1sc over next 2dc, 1sc in top of 3ch. Turn. (12sc)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) 3ch, dec 1dc over next 2sc, 1dc in each of next 9sc. Turn. (10dc + 3ch) Fasten off.

 

Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * once more, dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in top of 3ch. Fasten off.


Join in main color yarn and work Pattern Rows 3 & 4 once. Fasten off. (11sc)


Right and Left Front Borders - Over sew with needle and yarn or ss using 5.00mm hook shoulder seams together.


Working on RS facing of work with main color yarn and using 4.50mm hook, start on lower edge of right hand front edge, ch1, work 40sc evenly in row ends along first front edge working in row ends to neck, 3sc in corner, work 15sc evenly along first neck edge to shoulder, 1sc in each of next 20sc across back, 15sc evenly along second neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 40sc evenly in row ends down second front edge. Turn.


Starting with 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, work 1 more row in sc all around cardigan working 3sc in corners. Turn.

 

Next Row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each of next 3sc, * 2ch, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 8sc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, 2ch, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of last 2sc. Turn. (5 Buttonholes made)

 

Next Row - 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each sc and 2ch space to end.

Fasten off.

 

Return to opposite front edge, with RS facing working from neck down, work, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each sc to end. Turn. Rpt last row once. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With 4.00mm hook and main color, ch10, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (9sc)


Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only ch1, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each sc

to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 27 rows have been worked in all from beginning.


Do not turn, working in row ends along side of rib work:-


Row 1 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1dc in base of 3ch, 1dc in each stitch along to last st, work 2dc in last stitch. Turn. Fasten off. (28dc +3ch)


Row 2 - Join in contrast color yarn, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in next dc,

* dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last

sc in top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (9, dc4tog)


Row 3 - Join in main color yarn, 3ch, 1dc in base of 3ch, 1dc in each sc and dc4tog to last sc, 2dc in last sc. Turn. (30dc + 3ch)


Row 4 - 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt Row 1 (32dc + 3ch). Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, * dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and 3ch to turn, work dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (11, dc4tog)


Rpt Rows 3, 4 & 1 (36dc + 3ch). Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each of next 2dc,  * dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, working last sc in top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (11, dc4tog)


Rpt Rows 3, 4 & 1 (40dc + 3ch). Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in  next dc,

* dc4tog in next dc, 1sc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end working last

sc in top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (13, dc4tog)


Next Row - Join in main color yarn, 3ch, 1dc in each sc and dc4tog to end, Turn. (40dc + 3ch)

 

Next Row - 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each dc to end, 1sc in top of 3ch. Turn. Fasten off. (41sc)


Attaching Sleeves - Fold sleeves in half lengthways, place centre to shoulder seams, over sew with needle and yarn or sl st using 5.00mm hook in position.


Finishing - Join side and sleeve seam together by either over sewing with needle and yarn or sl st with 5.00mm hook. Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn. Turn through to RS. Sew on buttons evenly to correspond with buttonholes.


Bonnet - With 4.00mm hook ch6, sl st to first ch to make a ring, 3ch, work 16dc

in ring, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (16dc + 3ch)

 

2nd Round - 1ch, 2sc in base of 1ch, 2sc in each dc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. (34sc)

 

3rd Round - 3ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (33dc + 3ch)

 

4th Round - 1ch, 2sc in base of 1ch, * 1sc in next dc, 2sc in next dc, * rpt from

* to * to last dc, 1sc in last dc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (51sc)

 

5th Round - 3ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (50dc +3ch)

 

6th Round - 1ch, 2sc in base of 1ch, * 1sc in each of next 2dc, 2sc in next dc,

* rpt from * to * to last 2sc, 1sc in each of last 2sc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (68sc)

 

7th Round - 3ch, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (67dc + 3ch)

 

8th Round - 1ch, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each sc to last 4dc, turn leaving 4d

un-worked (64sc)


Using main color yarn work dc and sc rows alternately, turning at the end of each row until 19 rows have been worked in all from crown ending on a dc row.

Fasten off. DNT.


Brim - (Working in front loop of stitch only), rejoin main color yarn to the top of

3ch on beginning of the row you just worked, ch1, 1sc in base of 1ch, 1sc in each dc to end. Turn.

 

Working through both loops from now on work Pattern Rows 1 to 4 from back of cardi twice. Fasten off. (20, dc4tog) Fold Brim back onto RS of Bonnet.


Neck Edge and Chain Ties - With main color yarn and 4.00mm hook, ch46. Fasten off. (Will come back to later).


With RS facing ch46, work sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, work sc’s evenly along neck edge of bonnet catching in both sides of brim as you go, return to 46ch you made earlier and work sl st in each ch to end. Fasten off.

 

Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn, tie chain ties in a bow.
