200 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in white (001) Main
100 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in contrast
5.00mm, 4.50mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks
5 Buttons
TENSION - 4tr and 3 rows of pattern measures approx 1” using 4.00mm hook

Cardigan (Back) - With 4.00mm hook and main colour, make 10ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from
hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (9dc)
Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into
dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 43 rows have been worked in all from beginning.
Do not turn, work into row ends along side of rib for next row.
Pattern Row 1 - Make 3ch, work 1tr into each stitch to end. Turn. Fasten off.
(42tr + 3ch)
Pattern Row 2 - Using contrast colour yarn, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,
* 1dc into each of next 2tr, tr4tog into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2tr and
3ch to turn with, 1dc into each tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (13 tr4tog) Fasten
off.
Pattern Row 3 - Join in main colour yarn, 3ch, 1tr into each dc and tr4tog to end,
Turn. (42tr + 3ch)
Pattern Row 4 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top
of 3ch. Turn. (43dc)
Pattern Rows 1 to 4 form the pattern, rpt rows six more times each until 7 tr4tog
rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 10.5 inches from beginning.
Fasten off.
Left Front - # With 4.00mm hook and main colour, make 10ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from
hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (9dc)
Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into
dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 19 rows have been worked in all from beginning.
Do not turn, working into row ends along side of rib rpt Pattern Rows 1 to 4 same
as for back until five tr4tog rows have been worked in all. Turn. (19st)
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each dc to end. Turn. (18tr + 3ch) Fasten off. #
Shape Neck - Miss 5tr, rejoin contrast colour yarn to next tr, 1ch, 1dc into base
of 1ch, * tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end,
1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (4, tr4tog) Fasten off.
Next Row - (Dec Row) Join in main colour yarn, 3ch, 1tr into each of next 10st, dec
1tr (see abbrev) over next 2st, 1tr into last st. Turn. (12tr + 3ch)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2tr, 1dc into tr
to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (12dc)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 3ch, 1tr into each of next 8dc, dec 1tr over next 2dc, 1tr into
last dc. Turn. (10tr + 3ch) Fasten off.
Next Row - Join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * tr4tog into
next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc into top of 3ch.
Fasten off.
Join in main colour yarn and work Pattern Rows 3 & 4 once. Fasten off. (11dc)
Right Front - Work same as Left from # to #
Shape Neck - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 2dc, * tr4tog into
next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * twice more, tr4tog into next
tr,
1dc into next tr. Fasten off. Turn leaving 4tr and 3ch to turn with un-worked.

Next Row - (Dec Row) Join in main colour yarn, 3ch, dec 1tr over next 2tr, 1tr into
each of next 11dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (12tr + 3ch)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to last 2tr and
3ch to turn, dec 1dc over next 2tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (12dc)
Next Row - (Dec Row) 3ch, dec 1tr over next 2dc, 1tr into each of next 9dc. Turn.
(10tr + 3ch) Fasten off.
Next Row - Join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each
of next 2tr, * tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to *
once more, tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off.
Join in main colour yarn and work Pattern Rows 3 & 4 once. Fasten off. (11dc)
Right and Left Front Borders - Over sew with needle and yarn or ss using 5.00mm hook
shoulder seams together.
Working on RS facing of work with main colour yarn and using 4.50mm hook, start on
lower edge of right hand front edge, make 1ch, work 40dc evenly into row ends along
first front edge working into row ends to neck, 3dc into corner, work 15dc evenly
along first neck edge to shoulder, 1dc into each of next 20dc across back, 15dc evenly
along second neck edge, 3dc into corner, work 40dc evenly into row ends down second
front edge. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row in dc all around cardigan
working 3dc into corners. Turn.
Next Row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 3dc,
* 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 8dc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, 2ch,
miss 1dc, 1dc into each of last 2dc. Turn. (5 Buttonholes made)
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to end. Fasten
off.
Return to opposite front edge, with RS facing working from neck down, work, 1ch,
1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row once. Fasten off.
Sleeves x 2 - With 4.00mm hook and main colour, make 10ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook,
1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (9dc)
Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into
each dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row until 27 rows have been worked in all from beginning.
Do not turn, working into row ends along side of rib work:-
Row 1 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each stitch along to last st,
work 2tr into last stitch. Turn. Fasten off. (28tr +3ch)
Row 2 - Join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr,
* tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working
last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (9, tr4tog)
Row 3 - Join in main colour yarn, 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each dc and
tr4tog to last dc, 2tr into last dc. Turn. (30tr + 3ch)
Row 4 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch.
Turn.
Rpt Row 1 (32tr + 3ch). Fasten off.
Next Row - Join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * tr4tog into
next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch to turn,
work tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (11, tr4tog)
Rpt Rows 3, 4 & 1 (36tr + 3ch). Fasten off.
Next Row - Join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each
of next 2tr, * tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to *
to end, working last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (11, tr4tog)
Rpt Rows 3, 4 & 1 (40tr + 3ch). Fasten off.
Next Row - Join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next
tr, * tr4tog into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end working
last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (13, tr4tog)
Next Row - Join in main colour yarn, 3ch, 1tr into each dc and tr4tog to end, Turn.
(40tr + 3ch)
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch.
Turn. Fasten off. (41dc)
Attaching Sleeves - Fold sleeves in half lengthways, place centre to shoulder seams,
over sew with needle and yarn or ss using 5.00mm hook into position.
Finishing - Join side and sleeve seam together by either over sewing with needle
and yarn or ss with 5.00mm hook. Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn. Turn through
to RS. Sew on buttons evenly to correspond with buttonholes.
Bonnet - With 4.00mm hook make 6ch, ss to first ch to make a ring, 3ch, work 16tr
into ring, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (16tr + 3ch)
2nd Round - 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 2dc into each tr to end, ss to first dc. Turn.
(34dc)
3rd Round - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
(33tr + 3ch)
4th Round - 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into next tr, 2dc into next tr, * rpt
from * to * to last tr, 1dc into last tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.
(51dc)
5th Round - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
(50tr +3ch)
6th Round - 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, * 1dc into each of next 2tr, 2dc into next
tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, 1dc into each of last 2dc, ss to first dc on beginning
of row. Turn. (68dc)
7th Round - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.
(67tr + 3ch)
8th Round - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last 4tr, turn leaving
4tr un-worked (64dc)
Using main colour yarn work tr and dc rows alternately, turning at the end of each
row until 19 rows have been worked in all from crown ending on a tr row. Fasten off.
DNT.
Brim - (Working into front loop of stitch only), rejoin main colour yarn to the top
of 3ch on beginning of the row you just worked, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc
into each tr to end. Turn.
Working through both loops from now on work Pattern Rows 1 to 4 from back of cardi
twice. Fasten off. (20, tr4tog) Fold Brim back onto RS of Bonnet.
Neck Edge and Chain Ties - With main colour yarn and 4.00mm hook, make 46ch. Fasten
off. (Will come back to later).
With RS facing make 46ch, work ss into second ch from hook, ss into each ch to end,
work dc’s evenly along neck edge of bonnet catching in both sides of brim
as you go, return to 46ch you made earlier and work ss into each ch to end. Fasten
off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn, tie chain ties in a bow.
