150 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in White (1001) Colour 1

40 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Sunshine (1114) Colour 2

4.00mm & 4.50mm crochet hooks

11 decorative buttons

TENSION - 5tr and 2.5 rows measure approx 1 Inch using 4.00mm hook

Cardigan (worked in one piece) Starting with yoke, using 4.00mm hook and colour 1, make 49ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end (46tr + 3ch) Turn.

Row 2 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch, (57tr + 3ch). Turn.

Row 3 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Row 4 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into next tr * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 3tr * rpt from * to * to end working last tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (71tr + 3ch)

Row 5 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.

Row 6 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch (94tr + 3ch). Turn.

Row 7 - (Inc) 3ch, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (124tr + 3ch). Fasten off.

Row 8 (Shape Armholes) - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 18tr, miss 22tr, (first armhole) 1tr into each of next 43tr, miss 22tr, (second armhole) 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (80tr + 3ch)

Commence Skirt - Change to 4.50mm hook, 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2.

Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end. Turn. (81dc)

Row 3 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1fptr around tr on row below last row worked, (dc row) 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (40, fptr)

Fasten off.

Work Rows 2 & 3 in colour sequence as follows:-

Twice in colour 1.

# once in colour 2.

Twice in colour 1.#

Rpt from # to # until four colour 2 rows have worked in all from yoke or work measures approx 9 inches from shoulder. Turn.

Work Row 2 once. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 - With 4.50mm hook, WS facing and colour 1, rejoin yarn to side of tr at base of armhole where you divided, 3ch, 1tr into each of next 22tr, 1tr into side of tr on opposite side of sleeve, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (23tr + 3ch)

Second Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off.

Join in colour 2.

Third Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (24dc)

Fourth Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 1fptr around tr on row below last row worked, (dc row) 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1fptr around next tr on row below, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. (12, fptr)

Fasten off.

Work Third & Fourth Rows twice more in colour 1, rpt from # to # on skirt, slip stitching to first dc at the end of each row until three colour 2 rows have been worked. Turn.

Cuff - Change to 4.00mm hook, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. Work two more rows of 1dc into each dc, slip stitch to first dc at the end of each row. Fasten off. Underarm sleeve seam now measures approx 5 Inches.

Button/buttonholes Bands - With colour 1 and 4.00mm hook, start on lower edge of right hand front edge, make 1ch, work 35dc evenly into row ends along first front edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, work 35dc evenly into row ends down second front edge. Turn.

Next Row - (Buttonholes) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc, to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner, 1dc into corner, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 7dc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of last 4dc. Fasten off.

(5 Buttonholes made)

Finishing - Close small gap under arms, weave in loose ends of yarn and trim off, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Nappy Cover - With colour 1 and 4.00mm hook, make 68ch, (RS) work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (65tr + 3ch)

2nd Row - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row until 10 rows have been worked. Fasten off.

Shape Crotch - Miss 23tr, join yarn to next tr, make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 19tr, turn leaving remaining 22tr and 3ch to turn with un-worked. (19tr + 3ch)

Decrease Row - 3ch, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into each tr to last 3tr, tr2tog over next 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (17tr + 3ch)

Rpt Decrease Row until 13tr + 3ch remain. Turn.

Rpt 2nd Row once. Turn.

Rpt Decrease Row once (11tr + 3ch)

Rpt 2nd Row four more times.

Increase Row - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 2tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (13tr + 3ch)

Rpt 2nd Row once. Turn.

Rpt Increase Row until you have 19tr + 3ch remaining. Fasten off. (19tr + 3ch) Turn. Fasten off.

Front Flap - Make 6ch, work 1tr into each of next 19tr, 1tr into top of 3ch, make 8ch, work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each of next 4ch, 1tr into each of next 20tr, 1tr into each of next 6ch. Turn. (31tr + 3ch)

Rpt 2nd Row nine more times. Fasten off.

Contrast Colour Border

Starting with RS facing and working along cast on edge, join colour 2 to first ch, work 1dc into each ch (64), 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each of next 22tr, * work 2dc into next row end, 1dc into next row end, * rpt from * to * to end of crotch, 1dc into each of next 5ch, 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each of next 30tr, 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each of next 5ch, rpt from * to * to end of crotch, 1dc into each of next 22tr, 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end, 1dc into corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.

Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc all around nappy cover to end, working 3dc into corners, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Chain Tie - Make 150ch. Fasten off.

Finishing -

Weave in all loose ends of yarn, thread chain tie through alternate tr's on waist and tie in a bow. If you prefer to leave front flap out, sew 3 buttons evenly down each side and use gaps between tr's on front flap as buttonholes. (see pic)
