110 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Colour 1

30 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Colour 2

4oz of Light Worsted Weight #3 Yarn in Color 1

1.05oz of Light Worsted Weight #3 Yarn in Color 2

4.00mm crochet hook, 2 small buttons


GAUGE - 4dc and 2 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Back - With color 1 ch43 loosely, work 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (41dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until 19 rows have been worked in all. Fasten off.


Bottom Edge - With WS facing, join color 2 to cast on edge (starting chain) with a sl st, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn (41sc)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch2, work 4 more rows of 1sc in each sc turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.

 

Front - With color 1, ch43 loosely, 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (41dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.

 

Rpt last row until 12 rows have been worked in all. Turn.


Front Split and Neck shaping 


Right Hand Side - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each of next 19dc, turn leaving 21dc un-worked. (20dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until 4 rows have been worked in all from split.


Shape Neck


Right Front Neck - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each of next 13dc, turn leaving 6dc un-worked. (14dc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn. (13dc).

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each of next 9dc, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in last dc. Turn. (12dc) Fasten off.


Return to 21 un-worked dc on front split.


Left Hand Side - Skip 1dc, rejoin color 1 to next dc, ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. (20dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until 4 rows have been worked in all from split. Fasten off.


Shape Neck


Left Front Neck - Skip 6dc, rejoin color 1 to next dc, ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn. (14dc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each of next 10dc, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in last dc. Turn. (13dc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn. (12dc). Fasten off.


Bottom Edge - With WS facing, using color 2, work on opposite side of cast on chain, (same as you did for the back) starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 5 rows of 1sc in each sc, turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.


Button/Buttonhole Bands (written for a boy, swap sides for a girl)


Button Band - With WS facing and working from neck downwards, join in color 2, work 2sc in each row end to end, 1sc in base of button band. Turn. (9sc)


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 2 more rows of 1sc in each sc turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.


Buttonhole Band - Return to second side and working from bottom up towards neck edge, join in color 2 with a sl st to bottom of band, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 2sc in each row end to end. Turn. (9sc)


Buttonhole Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 5sc, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each ch1 space and sc to end. (9sc). Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With color 1 ch27 loosely, work 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (25dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Next Row - (Inc Row) ch2, 2dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to last dc, 2dc in dc. Turn.


Rpt last row until you have 35dc left or 7 rows have been worked in all. Turn.


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Fasten off. (35dc and 8 rows worked in all).


Cuff - With WS facing and using color 2, starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 5 rows of 1sc in each sc along cast on edge, (starting chain) turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.


Hood - With color 1 ch69 loosely, 1dc in 3rd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (67dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until you have worked 9 rows in all. Fasten off. Turn.


Next Row - Skip 26dc, re-join color 1 to next dc with a sl st, ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each of next 14dc, turn leaving 26dc. (15dc)


Next Row - ch2, 1dc in base of ch2, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until centre panel fits along side panels (approx 14dc rows in all) Fasten off.


Hood Edge Including Ties - With color 2 ch40 loosely, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, with WS facing pick up front of hood (cast on edge) work 1sc in each ch to end, ch40 loosely, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, 1sc in each of next 67sc along front of hood, sl st to next sl st. Turn.


Starting with ch1 work 1 more row of 1sc in each sc along front of hood, sl st to next sl st. Fasten off.


Whip stitch centre panel to side panels.


Join side and sleeve seams. (see diagram)














Starting from left hand side of placket, attach hood to sweater by whip stitching seams together, making sure ties are on the RS and seams are evenly placed along back of sweater, gather any fullness as you go.


Weave in and trim off all loose ends.
