60 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in Color 1


30 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Color 2

4.00mm crochet hook, medium button


GAUGE - 4dc and 2.5 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Peaked Cap - Worked in rounds without turning to peak.

With color 1, ch8, sl st to 1st ch to make a ring.


Round 1 - (RS) ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in ring, * (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ring, * rpt from * to * 4 more times, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round. (23dc, 6, ch1 spaces + ch3)


Round 2 - sl st to first ch1 space, ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in same ch space,

* skip 2dc, 1dc in space between next 2dc, skip 2dc, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch1 space * rpt from * to * to remaining dc, skip 2dc, 1dc in space between next 2dc and ch3, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round.


Round 3 - sl st to first ch1 space, ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in same ch space,

* skip 2dc, 1dc in space between next dc, 1dc in dc, 1dc in space between next dc, skip 2dc, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to remaining dc, skip 2dc, 1dc in space between next dc, 1dc in dc, 1dc in space between next dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round.


Round 4 - sl st to first ch1 space, ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in same ch space, * skip 2dc, 1dc in space between next dc, 1dc in next 3dc, 1dc in space between next dc, skip 2dc, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to remaining dc, skip 2dc, 1dc in space between next dc, 1dc in next 3dc, 1dc in space between next dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round.


Round 5 - Rpt Round 4 once increasing in the same way, you should have 7 single dc between shells.


Round 6 - sl st to first ch1 space, ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in same ch space,

* skip 2dc, 1dc in each of next 7dc, skip 2dc, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to remaining dc, skip 2dc, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round.


Rpt Round 6 four more times until 10 rounds have been worked in all. Fasten off.


Peak -

With RS facing join color 2 to the single dc after one of the shells, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 8dc, 1sc in ch1 space, 1sc in next 9dc. Turn. (19sc)


Next Row - Dec 1sc over first 2sc, (see abbrev) 1sc in each sc to last 2sc, dec 1sc over last 2sc. Turn.


Rpt last row until 7sc remain. Fasten off.


Cap Edge - With WS of work facing, join color 2 to first dc at base of peak on the left hand side of cap, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each dc and ch1 space around cap to right hand side of peak, work 1sc in each row end up first side of peak, 1sc in each sc along the top of peak, 1sc in each row end down second side of peak, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1 more row of 1sc in each sc all around the peak and cap to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.


Covered Button - With color 2, ch8, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 5 more rows of 1sc in each sc, fasten off leaving a long length of yarn.


Thread yarn evenly all around through sc, place medium size button in center and gather around it tightly, secure so that button cannot break free.

Attach button over hole at crown on cap and sew in position.


Finishing - Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, decorate with an animal motif if you wish.


Booties


Sole - With color 1, ch11, (RS) 3hdc in 4th ch from hook, 1hdc in each of next 6ch, 8hdc in last ch, working on opposite side of cast on ch, work 1hdc in each of next 6ch, 4hdc in last ch, sl st to top of the ch3 on beginning of row. DNT. (27hdc + ch2)


2nd Round - ch2, work 2hdc in each of next 3hdc, 1hdc in each of next 8hdc, 2hdc in each of next 6hdc, 1hdc in each of next 8hdc, 2hdc in each of last 2hdc, 1hdc in base of ch2, sl st to top of ch2. DNT. (39hdc + ch2)


3rd Round - ch2, skip first hdc, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in base of ch2, sl st to top of ch2. DNT. (39hdc + ch2)


4th Round - Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn (40sc)


5th Round - Working through both loops ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn (40sc)


Rpt last row once. Fasten off.


Instep

With WS facing and counting from where you fastened off, skip 10sc, rejoin yarn with a sl st too next sc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 19sc. Turn leaving 10sc un-worked. (20sc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (see abbrev above) 9 times, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (11sc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, (dec 1sc over next 2sc) 5 times. Turn. (6sc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch1, insert hook and pull up loop in each sc, yo and pull through all 7 loops on hook to close, ch1. Fasten off.


Top - With color 1 and WS facing rejoin yarn to back seam, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each of next 9sc, 8sc evenly across top of instep, work 1sc in each of next 10sc, sl st to first sc. Turn. (28sc)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in base of ch3, * skip 1sc, 1dc in each of next 3sc, skip 1sc, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 3sc, skip 1sc, 1dc in next sc, 2dc in next sc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off. (5, shell groups)


Pattern Round - sl st to first ch1 space, ch3, 1dc, ch1, 2dc in same ch space, * skip 2dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, skip 2dc, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to remaining dc, skip 2dc, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of round.


Rpt Pattern Round twice. Fasten off. Turn.


Contrast Color Edge - Join yarn to dc on back seam after the shell group, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1sc in each dc to ch1 space, (1sc ch2, 1sc) in same space, * rpt from * to * to end, 1sc in each of the remaining dc, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.


With the back seam towards you and sole facing upwards, rejoin color 2 to loose loops on the sole of the bootie at the back seam, work one row of crab stitch, (see abbrev) around sole to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, decorate with small motifs or animal buttons.
