How to make a cluster (CL) -

* yrh, insert into stitch and pull through,

* rpt from* to * twice more, yrh,

Finished length from shoulder approx 8.5”

Sleeve length from under arm to cuff approx 3.5”


Materials

50 grams of King Cole big value baby 4 ply in white main colour


50 grams of 4ply Yarn in Contrast Colour


3.50mm Crochet Hook, 3 Small buttons

Approx 50cm of 6mm wide satin ribbon in contrast colour


TENSION - 5tr & 2 rows of tr measures 1 Inch

Cardigan - Worked in one piece starting with yoke and using main colour yarn, with 3.50mm hook make 49ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (46tr + 3ch)


Row 2 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into 1st tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 3tr,

* rpt from * to * to 3ch, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (57tr +3ch).


Row 3 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


Row 4 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr

* rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, 2tr into tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (76tr +3ch).


Row 5 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


Row 6 - (Inc Row) 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr

* rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch, 2tr into next tr, 1tr into last tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (101tr + 3ch)


Row 7 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end. Turn. (102dc).


Row 8 - (Inc Row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc, * 2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 2dc * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (135dc)


Commence Skirt - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2dc, * miss 1dc, 1cl (see abbrev), 1ch, 1cl into next dc, miss 1dc, 1tr into each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (22, cl groups). Fasten off.


Next row - (Divide for armholes) Join in contrast colour and make 3ch, * 1tr

into each of next 2tr, * 1 cl group (see abbrev) into 1ch space of next cl group,

1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * once, 1cl group into 1ch space of next cl group, 1tr into next tr, 2tr into next tr, 1ch  miss next 5cl groups and 1tr,  2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, rpt from * to * 5 times, 1cl group into 1ch space of next cl group, 1tr into next tr, 2tr into next tr, 1ch, miss 5cl groups and 1tr, 2tr into next single tr, 1tr into next tr, rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (12cl groups).     


Next row -  3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 1cl group into cl group, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * twice, 1cl group into 1ch space underarm, 1tr into each of next 3tr, rpt from * to * 6 times, 1cl group into 1ch space underarm, 1tr into each of next 3tr, rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (14, cl groups).


Pattern Row - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 1cl group into next cl group, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (14, cl groups).


The last row forms the pattern rpt until 8 rows have been worked in all from yoke

or cardigan measures approx 7 Inches from shoulder. Fasten off.


Rpt Pattern Row once in main colour and once in contrast colour. Fasten off.

You should now have 10 cluster rows worked from yoke.


Sleeves x 2 - With 3.50mm hook and WS facing, rejoin contrast colour yarn to side of tr at base of armhole where you divided, 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 1cl group into 1ch space of next cl group, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last cl group, 1cl group into 1ch space of last cl group, 1tr into next tr, 1tr into side of tr on the opposite side of sleeve, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.

(5cl groups).


Next row - ss to first tr, make 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 1cl group into 1ch space of next cl group, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last cl group, 1cl group into 1ch space of last cl group, 1tr into next tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.


Next row - Make 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 1cl group into 1ch space of next cl group, 1tr into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last cl group, 1cl group into 1ch space of last cl group, 1tr into next tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.


Continue with last row until 7 cluster rows in all have been worked

from yoke or sleeve seam measures approx 3 Inches. Turn. Fasten off.


Cuff - With WS facing and main colour yarn, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, * miss 1cl, 1dc into 1ch space of cl group, miss 1cl, 1dc into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into last tr, ss to first dc. Turn. (20dc).


Next row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end, ss to first dc. Turn. Rpt last row 2 more times until 4 dc rows have been worked in all. Fasten off.


Front Edging - With 3.50mm hook, main colour yarn, RS facing and starting at lower edge on right hand side of cardigan, work 2dc into each row end up right front, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each stitch around neck, 3dc into corner, 2dc into each row end down left front of cardigan, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each tr, cl and 1ch space along the bottom of cardigan, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - (buttonhole) 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc along bottom of cardigan, up the left front, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around

neck to right hand front corner, 1dc into corner, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into remaining dc, 1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc. Turn. (3 buttonholes made).


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and ch space to neck edge. Fasten off.


Return to first side at neck edge (buttonband) and working downwards down front edge, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Close small gap underarms, sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn, thread ribbon through alternate tr's on Row 5 of yoke and tie with a bow.
